Kraft SA is unloading iconic gum brand Beechies, in the belief that it does not fit into its strategy for the long term growth and competiveness of its confectionary brands, which include such posh choccies as Toblerone and Cote D'Or. Beechies has a market share of around 10.4%, with its chief competitors Cadbury's Stimorol and Wrigley's Airwaves. Beechies, which was registered as a brand in South Africa in 1974, has been bought by Natela Importers, which believes that with its impressive sales, distribution and marketing capacity, will take the gum to the next level.
