| Apr 23 2010 |
Best Buy (US consumer electronics retailer) is contemplating selling electric cars at its outlets. According to Leo Raudys, Best Buy’s director of environmental affairs, the retailer is “actively talking” with manufacturers. He said, “We are very serious about the business. Electric cars are basically computers on wheels. We expect to play a big part in it." He refused to provide any other details. However, he acknowledged that the company is testing Mitsubishi electric cars for its Geek Squad repair and installation staff.
Best Buy already sells electric bikes and scooters in Oregon. The company is planning to introduce these products in 40 new markets this year. Raudys also said that the company recycled 60 million pounds of electronics in 2009. He said that Best Buy plans to recycle 1 billion pounds of electronics in next four to five years.
