Webling Interactive has officially released Coles Shopmate, an iPhone app allowing shoppers to check the prices of more than 5000 products targeted to the users location. The app also includes a shopping list and recipes.
The Coles ShopMate app originally went live as a soft launch in January. It was a first for supermarket retailers in Australia on the iPhone platform and ranked at number two on iTunes' free app list. It has had around 170,000 downloads so far.
Coles CIO, Conrad Harvey said: “Since we knew this new mobile channel was taking us into slightly uncharted waters, we decided from the outset that the app would have to change, grow and adapt based on what we discovered consumers wanted from it.”
Webling Interactive director Deniz Nalbantoglu said that by responding to consumers it had created a dialogue and built trust between them and the Coles brand.
"As long as we keep allowing consumers to have a say in the app’s development, we believe we will always retain a loyal and engaged audience,” said Nalbantoglu.
“Since the upgrade, the feedback from consumers has shifted toward the app to include actual purchase of Coles products via the iPhone, including payment and delivery. It goes to show that today’s digital consumer does want it all, and want it now."
