Retail Ready / Shelf Ready Packaging refers to the containers and packaging for retail goods which are ready to be displayed instantly or with little set up for retail consumption by consumers.
Shelf Ready Packaging can be used to address store operations efficiency, shelf replenishment and product availability, visibility and access, as the merchandise units are easy to identify, easy to open, can easily be put onto the shelf and disposed of.
Primary Pack: that which the consumer takes home, consumer unit (e.g. bottle, carton but could be a multi-pack).
Secondary Pack: Second level of packaging designed to contain primary pack (e.g. shrink wrapped, corrugated tray)
Tertiary Pack: Transit Container (e.g. large corrugated case), may also be known as break-pack
