Urban Outfitters plans iPod Touch MPoS app

US retailer Urban Outfitters has employed Starmount to develop an in-store mobile point-of-sale (PoS) application. Deployed on the Apple iPod touch to deliver an easy-to-use interface, the application is aimed at improving personalised customer service, increasing floor efficiency and reducing transaction time and costs.

The mobile PoS solution will provide store associates a tool to complete transactions where the point-of-decision is occurring, said the company. It will include full functionality of a fixed-base PoS system, as well as integration with in-store databases, the company added.

The mobile application will be developed on the Starmount Application Framework, which is platform and operating system-independent, designed to easily integrate applications from point-of-service systems to inventory management tools. The framework can be extended to new mediums such as interactive kiosks and digital signage.
